How to Create Topical Authority with AI Content Clusters
How to Create Topical Authority with AI Content Clusters
Google does not rank keywords. It ranks Authorities. If you write one amazing article about "Keto Diet," but the rest of your site is about "Crypto," you won't rank. You lack Topical Authority.
To win, you need to cover a topic exhaustively. You need a Topic Cluster (or "Hub and Spoke" model).
- Hub Page: Broad guide (e.g., "Keto Diet Guide").
- Spoke Pages: Specific sub-topics (e.g., "Keto for Vegetarians," "Keto Side Effects," "Keto vs Paleo").
Creating 50 spoke pages used to take months. With AI, it takes days.
Step 1: The "Entity" Map
First, identify the core entity you want to own. Let's say it's "Programmatic SEO."
The Prompt:
Topic: Programmatic SEO. Task: Break this down into 5 Core Categories (Pillars). Output:
- Technical Implementation.
- Content Creation.
- Indexing Strategy.
- Tools & Software.
- Case Studies.
Step 2: The "Spoke" Generation
Now, generate the article titles for each pillar.
The Prompt:
Pillar: Technical Implementation of Programmatic SEO. Task: List 10 specific "How-to" or "Informational" article titles that cover this pillar exhaustively. Constraint: No overlap. Must be distinct queries.
Output:
- "How to set up a Headless CMS for pSEO."
- "Database design for programmatic pages."
- "Handling pagination in Next.js for SEO."
- ... and 7 more.
Repeat this for all 5 pillars. You now have 50 titles.
Step 3: The "Zero-Overlap" Briefs
The danger of AI is cannibalization. It might write the same thing 50 times. You need strict Content Briefs.
The Prompt:
Title: "Database design for programmatic pages." Parent Hub: "Programmatic SEO Technical Guide." Task: Write a content brief. Constraint: DO NOT discuss "Content Creation" or "Indexing." Focus ONLY on Database Schema, Airtable, SQL, and JSON structures.
Step 4: The "Interlinking" Architecture
This is where the magic happens. The Spoke must link to the Hub. The Hub must link to the Spoke. The Spokes must link to each other (if relevant).
The Strategy:
- Hub Page: Contains a "Table of Contents" that links to every Spoke.
- Spoke Page: First paragraph links back to the Hub ("This is part of our Ultimate Guide to pSEO.").
(See AI Internal Linking Strategy).
Step 5: The Execution (Batch Writing)
Now you execute the "Cyborg Workflow" (from our Content Creation Guide) on these 50 titles.
Pro Tip: Do not publish them one by one. Publish the Hub Page first. Then publish the Spokes in batches of 5. Update the Hub Page to link to them as they go live.
Step 6: The "Holistic" Evaluation
Once the cluster is live, ask AI to evaluate the whole.
The Prompt:
Context: Here is the list of 50 articles I published on "Programmatic SEO." Task: Is anything missing? If you were a professor teaching this course, what module did I forget? Result: "You forgot to cover 'Legal Implications and Copyright' of scraped data."
Action: Write that missing spoke.
Conclusion: Dominate the Niche
When you launch a Cluster, you signal to Google: "I am not just dipping my toe in. I am the expert." Google rewards this depth. It is hard for a competitor to replicate 50 interlinked articles. It is your moat.
